Ngunjiri accuses Kihika, her husband of nominating relatives as MCAs

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,18TH SEPT,2022-Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has hit out at Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, claiming she nominated family members and close allies to Nakuru County Assembly.

According to the Star, the ex legislature said it was unfair that the Governor was nominating her sister, nephew and friends leaving other people who fought hard for the UDA party.

“Governor Kihika na bwana yake, tafadhali kila mtu alipigania UDA. When you put your 22 year-old-nephew and sister in Bahati, mnaweka dereva wenu, mwalimu ya bwana yako… mnafanya kazi ya kuuza chama next time itakuwa ngumu. This is not fair,” he said.

This is loosely translated to, “Governor Kihika and the husband, everyone fought for UDA please. When you appoint your 22-year-old nephew and sister in Bahati, you appoint your driver, your husband’s teacher…you are making it difficult to market the party next time. This is not fair.”

Kihika did not pick our calls to respond to the accussations.

By the time of going to press, she had not responded to out text message.

Speaking in Mombasa, Ngunjiri said nominations should be about Kenyans and not a family affair.

“I think that is not fair. How will I sell that party next time? It will be difficult. People will say that UDA belongs to one family,” he reiterated.

Ngunjiri further urged all leaders to be fair with the nominations, pointing out that their electorates trusted them to be fair.

This comes amid nomination row as some counties claim that the MCA nomination lists were changed.

In Murang’a County, UDA supporters on Wednesday vowed to block MCAs swearing-in, claiming the list gazetted in July had been changed.

Two persons living with liabilities in Kericho also moved to court saying their names had been scraped off the MCAs nomination list.

They vowed to block the swearing-in.

On Thursday, Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi faulted political parties and the IEBC, saying they had turned the nomination into an auction.

“All political parties and IEBC should be ashamed for turning the nomination lists for MPs, Senators and MCA seats into an auction process where the highest bidders win the bid… Shame on you,” he said.
