IEBC to meet Presidential candidates over printing of form 34A and 34B

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,28TH JULY,2022-The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has invited the four Presidential candidates for a consultative meeting on Friday 29th July at 11am at the Bomas of Kenya.

In a statement, commission CEO, Marjan Hussein said, “The Commission has taken note of concerns raised by some of the representatives of the Presidential candidates regarding printing of results forms 34 A and 34B. The purpose of this letter is therefore to invite you to a consultative meeting to address the concerns raised.”

The letter is copied to Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto, Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga, Roots party Presidential candidate George Wajackoyah and Agano party Presidential candidate Mwaure Waihiga.

The invite comes after parties opposed the printing of the second set of form 34A after the teams that had accompanied IEBC officials to Greece to observe the process of printing raised concerns on why they were printing two sets of form 34A.

United Democratic Alliance party representative implored on the IEBC to convene an urgent meeting to set the record clear on the matter, and was supported by Paul Mwangi, Raila Odinga’s representative.

The first consignment of Presidential ballot papers arrived in the country at 10 am, days after representatives of the four presidential candidates, among other stakeholders, traveled to Greece to witness the printing of the ballot papers.

A fortnight ago, the commission received ballot papers for the other elective posts as the electoral agency races to get everything in place ahead of the August 9 general elections.
