BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,6TH JULY,20220-Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula has distanced himself from the Greek company awarded a tender by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to supply and deliver ballot papers for the August 9, 2022, general elections.
In a response to widespread reports to the effect that Wetangula may have an influence in the printing of ballot papers and polls register to be used by IEBC courtesy of his alleged association with individuals linked to a firm awarded the tender, the Bungoma Senator insists that the persons named are not known to him in any way.
“I have read the story very carefully. I have got no personal assistant by the name of Joshua. I do not have anybody that I know who deals in the printing business. The names of the foreigners they are indicating are not known to me,” he said
Wetangula, a principal in Deputy President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance maintains that the correspondence being circulated as proof of his association with Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA Holdings officials are a product of falsification and urged Kenyans to ignore them.
In fact he says the falsification was done by persons associated with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition President candidate Raila Odinga.
“The conclusion I can make is this could be crude forgeries. And my investigations indicate that these so-called letters have originated from ODM high command.” he claimed
“Certain individuals who are known and who will be cited at some point in time, are the ones who have generated in collaboration with the so-called deep state to engage in a smear campaign that I see is not only aimed at me but several colleagues within Kenya Kwanza formation,” he said
He says the mandate of superintending over the electoral process is the preserve of the IEBC and that no other individual including himself has a role to play in the process.
“IEBC is protected by the Constitution, it’s independent and does not work under the direction or influence of any individual least me. Even as a senior lawyer in this country, you can check on the records, I have never acted for IEBC or solicited for legal work from IEBC, because as a politician that will give rise to an automatic conflict of interest,” he charged
Wetangula the latest accusations are part of a well-calculated scheme to blackmail and persuade him to rethink his support for Ruto.
“I have been in the region for the last three-four days and the mood is fantastic. We are going to definitely deliver this victory to Kenya Kwanza and to William Ruto to besmirch others that are bound to fail,” he said
