297 test positive for Covid-19 as two succumb

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,2ND JULY,2022-297 people have tested positive for the Covid-19, from a sample size of 3,100 tested in the last 24 hours bringing total confirmed positive cases to 334,249.

The positivity rate is now at 9.6% with cumulative tests so far conducted being 3,763,301.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, out of the new cases 261 are Kenyans while 36 are foreigners with 162 males and 135 females.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 114, Kiambu 27, Nakuru 23, Machakos 19, Uasin Gishu 17, Kericho 14, Kilifi 14, Busia 13, Kirinyaga 12, Kisumu 9, Siaya 8, Mombasa 5, Laikipia 4, Nyandarua 4, Garissa 2, Homa Bay 2, Kajiado 2, Kakamega 2, Kitui 2, Bungoma, Narok, Nyamira and Nyeri 1 case each.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (18), 10-19 years (14), 20-29 years (67), 30-39 (63), 40-49 (56) 50- 59 (25), 60 years and above (54).

454 patients have recovered from the disease, 453 are from the Home Based and Isolation Care Program while 1 are from various health facilities countrywide.

This pushes the total recoveries to 324,826 of whom 271,608 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,218 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Sadly, 2 patients have succumbed to Covid-19, which are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of June 2022. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,655.

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (62), 10-19 years (44), 20-29 (149), 30-39 years (410), 40-49 years (647), 50-59 years (1,029), 60 years and above (3,314).

There are 133 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 3,635 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

5 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of whom 4 are on ventilatory support while 1 is on supplemental oxygen. Another 24 are in the General Wards and are all on supplemental oxygen. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination campaign

As of July 1st 2022, a total of 18,857,820 vaccines have been administered across the country. Of these, 16,784,572 are doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above).

Another 1,545,912 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years, 43,141 are below 15 years but above 12 years while 484,195 are booster doses.

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 13,430 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 5,396. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 31.9%.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
