BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,21ST JUNE,2022-The Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced that 419 people contracted COVID-19 out of a sample size of 3,610 tested in the last 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 11.6 per cent.
Of the cases, 287 are foreigners while 132 are Kenyans; 227 are males and 192 are females, while the youngest is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 110 years old.
Total confirmed positive cases are now 330,024, while cumulative tests so far conducted are at 3,728,165.
The infections were distributed across various counties as follows: Nairobi 265, Kiambu 50, Kitui 22, Nakuru 20, Mombasa 10, Murang’a 10, Kilifi 8, Siaya 6, Embu 4, Turkana 4, Kericho 3, Kisumu 3, Busia 2, Kajiado 2, Meru 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Kakamega, Kisii, Lamu, Makueni, Nyeri and Tana River had one case each.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement to newsrooms, said 288 patients recovered from the disease; 280 from the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program while 8 are from health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries are now at 321,086.
However, no patient succumbed to the disease; therefore the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,651.
“There are 74 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 3,213 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” noted CS Kagwe.
“Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and are on ventilator support while 11 are in the general wards and are on supplemental oxygen. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”
On the vaccination exercise, the CS revealed that a total of 18,608,768 vaccines have been administered across the country.
Of these, 16,657,840 are doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above) as of June 20, 2022.
He further stated that 1,499,487 doses were administered to those between 15 to 17 years; 40,454 are below 15 years but above 12 years, while 410,987 are booster doses.
He stated that the total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 13,781 while the total number of people fully vaccinated is 5,603.
“Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 31.5%. The government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033,” added Kagwe.
