BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI, 15TH JUNE,2022-Embattled Senator Johnson Sakaja insists that his name will be on the ballot for the Nairobi Gubernatorial position when the country goes to polls in August 9, 2022.
Despite a communication from the Commission for University Education early Wednesday to the effect that the Sakaja’s Degree Certificate from Team University in Uganda had been revoked, the youthful lawmaker insists the decision has no legal power.
In fact, the UDA candidate claims that institution’s Chairman, Prof Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha, had been “coerced and intimidated to illegally revoke recognition of accreditation that has been properly issued.”
“The purported revocation of my credentials by the Commission for University Education (CUE) chairman is null and void, and politically instigated.” Sakaja said
He questioned why the letter by CUE revoking his qualifications has been written and signed by the chairman on the CEO’s letterhead! He also claims that the commission did not meet to arrive at the decision.
According to Sakaja, the Commission for University Education had already conducted due diligence on his academic documents after it wrote a letter to their counterpart in Uganda, the National Council for Higher Education.
He says the commission had indeed confirmed the authenticity of his qualification from Team University through relevant authorities in Uganda and that the same documents were used by the Nairobi County Returning Officer to clear him to contest the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat.
Sakaja further insists that when the EACC recently made an inquiry about the authenticity of his academic credentials, CUE affirmed they were legitimate and that he was qualified to run for office.
