A Nakuru court detains a man accused of stabbing his father over an argument

BY CORRESPONDENT,NAKURU,14TH JUNE,2022-A court in Nakuru has detained a man arrested for stabbing his elderly father over a land tussle for two more weeks pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The accused, a 25-year-old Bernard Rotich appeared before Molo Law Court Magistrate Rhodar Yator on Tuesday.

The court heard that at the beginning of the month, the suspect who hails from Saino village, Kiptororo Ward in Kuresoi North had a heated argument with his elderly father over land inheritance.

Following an escalation of the dispute, the young man stabbed his father sever times in the lower abdomen leaving him for dead after which he fled the scene.

Sleuths based in Kuresoi thereafter launched a manhunt for the perpetrator and was smoked out of his hideout on Monday evening.

His father was taken to Kericho Referal Hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

During the hearing, detectives in the prosecution requested orders to detain Rotich for two more weeks to allow investigations to be completed as key witnesses record statements and mental assessments done on the suspect.

The court granted the plea and directed the accused to be held at Kuresoi Police Station until June 27 when the case is expected to be mentioned.
