BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI, 7TH JUNE,2022-Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has been cleared to seek a second term by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the forthcoming August elections.
Speaking immediately after he was cleared, together with his running mate Wilson Nyaga Muisraeli, Governor Njuki said it has been a long journey to this date, noting there have been forces trying to make it difficult for his approval.
“There have been threats and intimidation by agents sent by opponents but I want to tell them we have forgiven them because we are God-fearing people who love peace,” said Njuki
He added: “I want to thank IEBC for following the law instead of propaganda. We now believe that the commission is free, independent and fair. We also believe the election will also be fair.”
Njuki who is running on a UDA ticket says his development record speaks to his voting block, believing it will be a key determinant in the August polls.
The EACC had recommended that the IEBC does not clear him together with over 200 other aspirants seeking various political offices.
The governor now says he will be keen to continue his development record and position the county as a hub in the region.
