BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,6TH ,MAY,2022-Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has told off Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi over his recent claims that the over 40 aspirants in the presidential race could be a plot to rig elections.
Kalonzo says that the ANC leader should desist from labeling Kenyans who have constitutional rights as government projects.
According to the Wiper leader, every Kenyan is entitled constitutionally to contest for any elective position and should be accorded equal opportunity.
“Unaona Mudavadi amepatwa na wasiwasi kidogo anasema 47 presidential candidates wametumwa na serikali. Serikali gani?” Kalonzo posed.
“These are Kenyan citizens who have the right to contest for any seats as they can; this is in fact a serious abuse to allege that someone who wants to be president has been sent by the deep state or whatever they want to call it.”
Mudavadi on Thursday during a Kenya Kwanza coalition tour in Kisii County questioned the large number of aspirants cleared by the IEBC for presidency alleging that they were ‘puppets’ by the government to rig elections.
“Why so many independents, maybe if we are not careful, they have seen it is not possible to spoil Ruto’s votes through the means they thought… some of these independent candidates are also projects of dividing the presidential votes because it is unprecedented,” Mudavadi stated.
He added: “It may look like madness but maybe there is a method in it. Because if all those candidates start causing chaos and spoiling votes, it is possible that will be provide them the opportunity to sneak in and steal votes.”
Kalonzo termed Mudavadi’s utterances as an indication of fear of defeat by the Kenya Kwanza political outfit.
“There is nothing like that, they have started to sense defeat; let them be defeated in peace,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader was speaking in Voi as he drummed up support for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party candidates.
Kalonzo was accompanied by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr and Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti among others.
