I See Kibaki’s Shadow In Kenya’s 5th President-DP Ruto

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,29TH APRIL,2022-Deputy President William Ruto says he sees the shadow of former president Mwai Kibaki in the next leader who will take over in August.

In his tributes to Kibaki at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, Ruto said the former president who will be buried in Nyeri on Saturday is the best Kenya ever had.

“I also can see his shadow and influence in what is going to become of the 5th President of Kenya. Because I see the conversation around the economy which president Mwai Kibaki was its architect influencing the coming election. We might need a separate book for Mwai Kibaki because of what he has done for our country,” Ruto said, himself a candidate in the next election to be held in August when the second and final term of incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta will come to an end.

Ruto and Kenyatta broke ranks three years ago and the president does not support his bid to succeed him.

He instead supports Opposition leader Raila Odinga who is vying on an Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition ticket.

“When the history of Kenya is written, Mwai Kibaki may not fit into paragraphs and even chapters. I think we might need a book to document what he has done for our country,” Ruto said at the state funeral service in which Kibaki was accorded full military honours.

The funeral service was attended by thousands, with more than 20 top dignitaries among them President Salva Kiir of South Sudan, Ethiopia’s Sahle-Work Zewde and South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa.

Kibaki who served Kenya as the third president from 2002 to 2012 died aged 90.
