We deserve to be considered for runing mate position- a section of Jubilee Party politicians in the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance say

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,10TH APRIL,2022-A section of Jubilee Party politicians in the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance now want leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to be considered for the presidential running-mate position as the 2022 succession politics takes shape.

Speaking in Nakuru on Saturday, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui took to the podium to castigate new players in the camp who he said want a seat at the table, saying the region expects to get the deputy president slot in the upcoming general election.

“We are not blind followers, the region of Mt.Kenya expects nothing short of the deputy president, it doesn’t matter who it is, tulianza safari wakati wengine hawangekaribia baba, wamekuja juzi  sasa wamekuwa pharisee pale mbele, we are not their by chance but by choice,” said Kinyanjui.

With 4 months until the General Election, Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege pointed out that the interest of millions of Mt Kenya voters need not be overlooked and get an equal share of the positions.

“Wanaongea maneno mingi, wengine wanagawiwa nini but we need to know our stake as the Mountain in the government that will be formed, tuko wengi, Nakuru mko wengi,so what is the share? tusichezewe hata kidogo, what is our share? We should not shy away from asking,” she said

Other leaders present cautioned the youth not to be lured by politicians to cause violence but instead  maintain peace.

On his part, Kiambu MP Jude Njomo said: “Tunataka chama inayounganisha watu, tumeungana na Azimio  tuunganishe nchi pamopja tuwe na amani na maendeleo hatutaki kuuziwa uwoga tuchague watu Fulani  ili tuwe na amani ,it should be inherent but not used as a bargaining tool.”

Their sentiments came just two days after Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s campaign spokesperson Professor Makau Mutua said the partner parties will deliberate on the matter and make an announcement at an appropriate time.

Mutua, in a statement on Thursday, said Odinga had met with partner party leaders and representatives to discuss, among other things, the issue of a running-mate.

“The matter of a running mate will be decided in consultation with partner constituent parties at the appropriate time.”
