BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,1ST APRIL,2022-Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has finally got his wish with the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Political Party set to be registered as a legal entity in the near future.
The decision comes after a push and shove between Kalonzo and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga and his lieutenants after Kalonzo insisted on the inclusion of OKA in the Azimio La Umoja which is spearheaded by Raila.
And on Friday afternoon, secretary generals from Wiper, ODM, KANU, UDP among others signed a deal to name their coalition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Political Party.
Raila’s head of Presidential secretariat Prof Makau Mutua said all parties involved have completed deliberations and agreed and they will now head to the registrar of political parties to finalize the deal.
The team will now traverse the Country to popularize the coalition as well as lobby support for the Presidential candidate Raila.
KANU Sec Gen Nick Salat said, “we are here to announce the formation of the Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya political party, we will give our team leader Raila Odinga, the necessary support to actualize his Presidency.”
Jubilee party Sec Gen Jeremiah Kioni on the other hand said the coalition is a movement that stands for the unity and continuity of the country urging Kenyans to support Raila’s bid saying he is the best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
ODM Sec Gen Edwin Sifuna said the agreement will bring to an end unnecessary conflict saying going forward they will speak in one voice.
At the same time, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has abandoned his UPF party and will now seek re-election on a Jubilee party ticket.
“To consolidate Azimio Coalition support base and lead the campaign team in the region, a decision has been arrived that I defend my Governor seat on Jubilee Party ticket. I therefore wish to state that I will defend my seat as Nakuru Governor on Jubilee ticket,” He said.
