Armed bank robbers escape with Sh25m, three injured in Kimilili

BY CORRESPONDENT,BUNGOMA,1ST MARCH,2022-Armed robbers on Tuesday went away with Sh25 million after attacking police officers who were transporting cash to a bank in Kimilili, Bungoma County.

The officers were transporting the cash in the Uhirika bank vehicle when they were raided by the thugs who shot at the officers before walking way away with the cash.

“Sergeant Boniface Hamisi has shot both legs at the thigh while Apc Joseph Lomulen was shot on the right knee.

“The Ushirika Bank manager  Kennedy Khalakai was shot on the left side of the stomach and the bullet still lodged in,” a police report reads.

The trio was rushed to Kimilili Sub County Hospital for first aid and later referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret in stable condition.

The bank manager still had a bullet lodged at the side of the stomach where he was hit.

In a survey done by crime and law enforcement, there have been 2,384 cases of robbery as of 2020.

The charge of robbery is liable to 14 years in prison, but even so, robbery with violence, which attracts the death penalty.

“The punishment for robbery with violence as provided for in section 296(2) of the Penal Code that provides that in case of a conviction the offender shall be sentenced to death.”
