BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,28TH FEB,2022-The Amani National Congress (ANC) party has told off Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua over remarks that the Kenya Kwanza coalition had agreed on its flag bearer and running mate
In a statement, ANC Secretary-General Simon Gikuru Monday said Gachagua who is Deputy President William Ruto’s right-hand man in United Democratic Alliance (UDA) did not have any authority whatsoever to speak on behalf of the coalition whose principals are; Ruto, Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.
The MP in an interview with a local TV station said the alliance had settled on Ruto as the preferred presidential candidate and a running mate from the Mount Kenya region.
In a rejoinder, Gikuru dismissed the MPs remarks as premature, untimely and unwarranted saying the Principals had not made any decision were focused on unveiling the coalition’s structure soon.
“Our primary objective as Kenya Kwanza Coalition is bringing together UDA, ANC and FORD- Kenya is to put our country together and erase ethnic animosity through mature politics devoid of toxic divisive narratives. It is therefore our considered opinion that Hon. Rigathi Gachagua should transition from regional UDA mindset to embrace the broader picture of Kenya Kwanza philosophy” said Gikuru.
He said the coalition was primarily mooted on the strength of shared ideologies pegged on economic revival, social justice, political tranquillity and entrenched nationalism.
The development came barely a day after the two Principals-Ruto and Mudavadi left the country for US and UK with a retinue of key supporters and confidants.
