Police Constable Lewis Ngolo Msuya, who has been in custody since October 2021, was charged with the murder of Said Muktar in the Korogocho Kona Mbaya area in Kariobangi, Nairobi.
In October last year, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) recommended that Msuya be charged with the murder of Muktar.
Presiding over the hearing, Justice Grace Nzioka directed that witnesses in the case be placed under witness protection and a report on the same be filed in court within two weeks.
The court further directed that he should not leave near Kariobangi or around the scene of the crime. The officer was also directed not to interfere with witnesses.
It is alleged that on the fateful day of the murder, a report was made to the police and Msuya rushed to the scene in the company of other officers, where he claimed they were confronted by Muktar who was holding a knife.
Msuya claims he shot the deceased in self-defense, which provoked residents to react by pelting stones at him and other officers who had gone to the scene.
