KRA impounds 230 bags of sugar smuggled from Uganda

BY CORRESPONDENT,NAIROBI,10TH FEB,2022-Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs Officers in Kitale have impounded 230 bags of uncustomed sugar smuggled from Uganda with a market value of Kshs. 810,000.

The sugar packed in gunny bags labelled Lugazi and whose origin is Uganda, was being transferred by a group of men to a parked truck for repackaging into empty gunny bags branded Butali sugar Mills limited, Webuye at a garage, in Veterinary area, Kitale. The customs officers also found a gunny bag-sealing machine.

The alleged owner of the sugar Consignment-a Mr. Daniel Mwangi has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in court. The trucks and the consignment were transferred to Eldoret Custom’s warehouse.
