Khalwale vows to deliver 95% of western region votes to Ruto’s UDA

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,25TH JAN,2022-Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said the Luhya community will vote in large numbers for Deputy President William Ruto.

Through his Twitter account on Tuesday, Khalwale said they will deliver 95.4 per cent of the Luhya votes to the DP’s basket.

“Thank God the stars are now fully aligned. Just like we combined in 2017 to deliver a 95.4% Western Presidential vote for NASA, so shall we for the William Ruto Presidency at this year’s election. The journey has begun,” Khalwale said.

Khalwale’s remarks come two days after the UDA party agreed to work with the Amani National Congress party of Musalia Mudavadi.

The group has planned joint mega rallies in Nakuru, Western and Central.

The previous voting patterns of the Western region favoured ODM leader Raila Odinga who got over 60 per cent of the votes.

It is a matter of waiting and seeing if their voting trend will change come the August 9, elections.

To bolster his bid, Ruto has also pledged to work with Ford Kenya and like-minded parties keen on uniting Kenyans.

“We will work with ANC, Ford Kenya, and all other parties that want to walk this journey of bringing Kenyans together,” Ruto said.

“We are going to raise the bar and standards of leadership so that deceit and conman ship doesn’t become part of the equation of leadership in Kenya. Kenya must belong to everyone and not a preserve of a few in power.”

The union between UDA, ANC and Ford Kenya complicates the race for other seats.

Khalwale who has expressed his interest in Kakamega gubernatorial seat is set to face off with Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala who is eyeing the same seat.

The former senator, last week, expressed confidence that if Ruto and Mudavadi team up, they will also strike a deal with Malala.

Khalwale lost his first stab at the governor seat in 2017 elections to incumbent governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
