George Natembeya resigns, to focus on governor race

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,12TH JAN,2022-Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has resigned. This is to allow him venture into politics. He is eyeing the Trans Nzoia Governor seat.

“I am no longer the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner,” Natembeya said on Wednesday.

He has been in public service for more than 25 years.

The former commissioner said he  would use his experience in leadership to transform the county.

He thanked the president, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho for the opportunity and the support they accorded him.

He has, however, not revealed on which party he will vie for the seat.

Natembeya is the first high-ranking official in the government  to resign ahead of the February 9 deadline for public servants eyeing political seats in the August 9 general Election in line with the Elections Act.

More than 20 senior government officials are expected to follow suit ahead of the polls.

Others eyeing the Trans-Nzoia seat include a long-serving member of Khaemba’s cabinet. Finance Executive Boniface Wanyonyi who says he wants to build on the legacy of his boss.

Trans-Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo, former Agriculture Executive Andrew Wanyonyi, businessman Moses Khaoya and Philemon Samoei are also eyeing the seat.

Also said to be in the race is Abraham Singoei and Maurice Bisau, both who work in the office of Deputy President William Ruto.
