Deputy President William Ruto has said the hustler nation will establish a Sh5 billion annual kitty for small businesses operating in Nairobi County.
He said the move will cushion them from predatory lenders.
Ruto was speaking to residents and small traders at Motherland and Eastleigh First Avenue, Kamukunji Constituency, Nairobi County, when he made the remarks.
He added that they will also build modern markets and initiate pro-investment laws that will oil the growth of such enterprises.
“This will advance our broad and inclusive plan of uplifting millions of ordinary Kenyans struggling to put food on the table,” Ruto said.
The DP was in the company of Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, Senator Millicent Omanga and EALA MP Simon Mbugua (EALA).
Others were UDA Chairman Johnson Muthama, former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and a host of MCAs.
Ruto also pledged to complete all stalled water projects if elected as the fifth president of Kenya in the coming elections.
He told city residents that water problems will be a thing of the past if he takes the top office.
“I know water is a problem in Nairobi but my government, God willing, will complete Northern Collector Tunnel and Nairobi, Ruiru II projects which will benefit the whole city,” Ruto added.
