BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,9TH JAN,2022-Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been transferred to Nairobi after recording a statement in Nakuru over alleged incitement made in Eldoret on Saturday.
Reports say the Senator will be held in custody at the Gigiri police station.
He was arrested in an Eldoret hotel on Sunday morning following a directive by Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai.
According to the DPP, Linturi’s utterances could incite contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination.
“My attention has been drawn to a video clip circulating on social media platforms portraying Mithika Linturi allegedly addressing a crowd and stating that “…Watu wa Uasin Gishu musicheze na Kenya, na kile nawaomba ni kwamba madoa doa yale mulionayo hapa muweze kuondoa…’ which utterances could incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination,” said the DPP.
Linturi however later apologized over his remarks saying his ‘madoadoa” remarks on Saturday were not meant to incite or propagate hate speech.
