Former Prisons Boss Dies After Bathroom Accident

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,5TH  JAN,2022-Patrick Mwenda, a former Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons has died after undergoing a head surgery to remove a blood clot that he sustained from a bathroom accident.

According to reports, the former prisons boss who also served as the Officer in Charge of Naivasha Maximum Prison died at a private hospital in Mombasa two days after undergoing the surgery.

“He was in perfect health in his Mombasa home when he fell and suffered a head injury. He, unfortunately, died a couple of days after the operation,” Francis Mwangi, a friend of the deceased told the Star.

Mwangi further revealed that Mwenda was a supporter of cremation and that they will honour his wishes.

“His wish was that he be cremated and we are working on that before holding a memorial mass at his home town in Embu,” he said.

The deceased will be remembered for introducing education reforms in the country’s correctional service centres that has seen over 2000 inmates get an education from jail.

While in charge of the Naivasha Maximum Prison, Mwenda also championed the formation of the Mindfulness Project which sought to positively change the intellect of inmates before returning back to society after finishing their sentences.
