Here are the most important things from Bukhungu 2 meeting

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,31ST DEC,2021-The Luhya Council of Elders on Friday announced a host of resolutions at the Azimio la Magaharibi rally held at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega County.

The meeting brought together several leaders including the ODM leader Raila Odinga, Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, Defence CS Eugine Wamalwa, Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo (Vihiga), Sospeter Ojamong (Busia) several MPs and Senators.

The rally, convened by Cotu boss Atwoli, was after giving the Luhya community a political direction ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

The event dubbed Bukhungu ll saw the Luhya elders make five resolutions that will guide the Luhya community as they approach the polls.

The resolve was read by Council’s secretary Peter Ludava.

First, the elders announced that the Western region shall be part and parcel of the Azimio La Umoja under Raila.

In addition, Ludava declared that they shall mobilise Western community members to support and vote for Raila to be the fifth President of Kenya.

Third, they declared that they shall form the next government with Raila.

In what appeared to be a warning to leaders who dismissed the event, Ludava declared that those who will not support the ODM leader’s presidential bid shall not be voted for in any elective seat in the region.

In their fifth resolve, the elders dealt a blow to the ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi after they fronted Governor Oparanya as the region’s kingpin.

Ludava stated that the decision had been arrived at by the elders in a bid to ensure that the interests of the Luhya nation are well taken care of.

“The elders unanimously hand over His Excellency Dr Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya as the Western Region Community leader with whom you will form the government with and negotiate with the stakes of the community,” he declared.

The declaration was signed by the Council secretary Ludava, chairman Patrick Wangamati and Atwoli who is the council’s patron.
