BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,31ST DEC,2021-ANC deputy party leader and Lugari MP Ayub Savula has officially abandoned Musalia Mudavadi and backed Raila Odinga for President.
The MP said the 2022 presidential contest is a two-horse race between Raila and Deputy President William Ruto.
The influential MP who has been a close ally of Musalia, announced that he has also ceased any engagements with the One Kenya Alliance.
The MP, however, clarified that he still remains in the Amani National Congress that sponsored him to Parliament.
“I have not defected from ANC but i have today officially joined the Azimio La Umoja,” declared Savula.
The MP spoke at a rally in Bukhungu stadium where Western Kenya leaders led by Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli held an Azimio La Umoja rally.
“I have also abandoned the one Kenya alliance, I am tired with that nonsense,” Savula said.
Savula’s move is a major blow to Musalia in his efforts to parry away Raila’s political onslaught and consolidate his western backyard.
“The 2022 presidential contest is a two-horse race between Rail and Ruto, nothing else,” declared Savula.
Raila officially recieved Savula to the Azimio La Umoja Movement which is soon tipped to morph into a political party once the amendments to the Political Parties Act are approved by Parliament and signed into law by the President.
