BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,29TH DEC,2021-President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated 5 persons for appointment to the Offices of Chairperson and Member of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
In a message to the National Assembly, President Uhuru nominated Roseline Doreen Adhiambo Odhiambo-Odede as the Chairperson of the Commission while Prof. Marion Mutugi Wanjiku, Dr. Raymond Plal Sang Nyeris, Ms. Sarah Talaso Bonaya, Dr. Dennis Nyongesa Wamalwa were nominated as members.
Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi has now forwarded the message on the appointments to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs to undertake the necessary approval hearings.
The Committee is expected to undertake approval hearings and submit its report within Twenty-Eight days.
The Deputy Speaker clarified that the period will start upon resumption of the regular sittings of the House on 25th January, 2022 noting that the Committee should table its findings on Tuesday, 22nd February, 2022
“Honourable Members, the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs is required to notify the public and the nominee in good time. Thereafter, upon resumption of its sittings, the Committee is to undertake the necessary approval hearings and submit its report to the House before Tuesday, 15th February, 2022 to enable the House consider the proposed appointment within statutory timelines,” He said.
