BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,29TH DEC,2021-Kenya on Wednesday recorded 3,297 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 288,951, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.
The CS in a press briefing confirmed that this was from a sample size of 9,637 recording a positivity rate of 34.2 per cent.
The cumulative tests stand at 3,009,185.
The country’s fatalities have risen to 5,372 after another eight patients succumbed to the disease.
Kagwe said that there are 835 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 21,692 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Some 39 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 19 of them on ventilatory support while 20 are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 198 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 173 of them are in the general wards. 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Meanwhile, 236 patients have recovered from the disease, 173 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 63 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at250,963 of whom 202,075 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 48,888 are from various health facilities countrywide.
As of December 28th 2021, a total of 9,723,787 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,704,996 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 4,018,791.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.7 per cent.
Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.8 per cent.
The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033
