Raila visits Kasarani ahead of Azimio la Umoja convention on Friday

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,9TH DEC,201-ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday inspected the ongoing works at the Kasarani Stadium ahead of the Azimio la Umoja convention.

Raila was accompanied by media mogul S.K. Macharia among other leaders during the inspection.

The convention is set for Friday, December 10.

Speaking during the inspection, National Assembly Minority Whip, Junet Mohamed said Kasarani Stadium is ready to host Friday’s event, calling on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers.

“The Prime Minister came to check on what the committee has done and he is happy with the preparation,” he said.

“I want to tell Kenyans that we are ready for them. Tomorrow is a big day for this country and they should come in large numbers from all over the country.”

The Suna East MP added that they expect everyone they invited, including dignitaries to attend.

He noted that the event will be historic and the former PM will use it to launch something.

Other leaders who accompanied the opposition chief were Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and James Ongwae (Kisii).

During the Azimio la Umoja Convention Raila is expected to officially announce his bid for the presidency in next year’s General Elections.

Kilifi Governor Amason King’is Pan-African Alliance party on Thursday confirmed that it will attend the Azimio la Umoja convention.

A statement from the secretariat said PAA fully embraces the unity rallying call that defines the Azimio la Umoja agenda.

“For this reason, PAA will stand shoulder to shoulder with other like-minded political parties and leaders and Kenyans at large in championing unity in our country Kenya,” the statement said.

The party said it believes its manifesto will be best articulated and advanced in an environment of national unity, which is what Azimio la Umoja is all about.
