BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,3RD DEC,2021-Zoo Kericho head coach Herman Iswekha has vowed to guide the team back to the Kenyan Premier League.
The club was relegated to the National Super League after they were found guilty of match-fixing last season. However, Iswekha — speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Shabana, said the team is now focusing on returning to the KPL.
“The relegation, though unfair and political, is now behind us. We must go back to the Kenyan Premier League next season,” said coach Iswekha.
“I know NSL is very competitive but my boys are up to the task. We cant wait to be back to the KPL, that is where we belong not NSL.”
The team will, however, miss the services of six key players due to injury. The six are captain Kepher Ondati, vice captain Geoffrey Gichana, Bernard Wanguche, Alex Onchwari, Derrick Anami and Castro Lisakha.
“It is a huge blow since they are first-team players. However, I have confidence in the players who will replace them in the starting lineup,” the tactician added.
“Shabana is a very good team with experienced players but we are not afraid of them. We are travelling to Awendo for three points. Shabana coach Robert Ojienda welcomed the return of the league after a three-week break following the disbandment of the Football Kenya Federation.
“We have prepared well in the last three weeks, including playing two friendly matches against Gor Mahia and Vihiga Bullets,” said Ojienda.
In the opening game, Shabana were held to a barren draw by newbies Mara Sugar while Kericho Zoo played to a 1-1 draw against Kisumu All Stars at Kericho Stadium.
