Kenya receives an additional 1,462,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,1ST DEC,2021-Kenya has received an additional 1,462,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines in yet another boost for the ongoing accelerated Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The latest consignment brought the number of doses received in the country to 14,120,000.

The shipment was a donation from development partners with Denmark donating 266,400, Belgium 445,300 while 750, 7000 doses were received from the Netherlands.

As of November 29th 2021, a total of 7,063,927 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, 4,354,454 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,709,473.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 57.0%.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 9.9%. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

The positivity rate in Kenya now stands at 2.2% with 109 people testing positive on Tuesday from a sample size of 4,994 tested in the last 24 hours.

From the cases, 91 were Kenyans while 18 were foreigners. 86 males and 23 females. The youngest was a five-year-old child while the oldest was 91 years.

The total confirmed positive cases in the country now stand at 255,088 and cumulative tests so far conducted are at 2,835,065.

A total of 169 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 818 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

7 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 6 of whom are on ventilatory support and 1 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 50 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with all of them being in the general wards. No patient is in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

10 patients have recovered from the disease with 5 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 5 from health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 248,318 of whom 200,400 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 47,918 are from various health facilities countrywide.

One patient succumbed to the disease being a late death reported after conducting facility audit records.

This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,335.
