Kenya records 173 Covid-19 as positivity rate stands at 2.5%

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,10TH NOV,2021-178 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 254,057.

The positivity rate stands at 2.5% from a sample size of 7,021 tested in the laast 24 hours. The new cases are all Kenyans except five foreigners among them 90 females and 88 males.

In terms of County distribution, Nairobi leads with 65 cases, Machakos 17, Nakuru 15, Kajiado 15, Kiambu 11, Kericho 8, Meru and Busia 5 cases each, Nyamira, Uasin Gishu, and Siaya 4 cases each, Bungoma and Mombasa 3 cases each, Kisumu, Kitui, Isiolo, Kakamega and Taita Taveta 2 cases each while Makueni, kilifi, Kisii, Marsabit, Nandi, Garissa, Vihiga, Bomet and West pokot recorded a case each.

No deaths have been reported therefore the number of total fatalities remain at 5314.

Further, 31 patients have recovered from the disease with 25 from the Home Based Isolation Care and Program while 6 are from health facilities countrywide.

“Total recoveries now stand at 247, 489 of whom 199,938 are from Home-Based Care and Isolation program while 47, 551 are from various health facilities countrywide,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced

A total of 403 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,063 are under Home Based care.

30 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU), 15 of whom are on ventilatory support and 15 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 111 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 110 of them are in the general wards. One patient is in the High Dependency Unit(HDU).

Vaccinations

As of November 9th 2021, a total of 5, 751, 332 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3, 825, 759 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,925,573.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 47.1%. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 7.1%.
