Nine patients succumb to Covid, positivity rate at 1.6%

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,6TH NOV,2021-The Ministry of Health has said that 76 people have tested positive for coronavirus from a sample size of 4,617 tested in the last 24 hours.

In a statement on Saturday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the positivity rate stands at 1.6 per cent.

The CS said that from the cases, 70 are Kenyans and 6 foreigners, of which 45 are males and 31 are females.

The youngest is a two-year-old child while the oldest is 93 years.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases to 253,813 and cumulative the tests so far conducted are 2,735,256.

Kagwe said that nine people have succumbed to the disease with one having occurred in the last 24 hours while the other eight are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of September and November 2021.

This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,305.

In terms of county distribution, Kericho leads with 14 cases, Kisii 12, Nairobi 9, Meru 5, Busia 4, Nyeri 4, Nandi 4, Kitui 3, Kakamega 2, Nakuru 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Bomet 2, Bungoma 2, Embu 1, Machakos 1,

Forty-one patients have recovered from the disease with 36 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 5 are from various health facilities countrywide.

The total recoveries now stand at 247,243 of whom 199,719 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 47,524 are from various health facilities countrywide.

A total of 418 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,129 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Thirty-five patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 19 of whom are on ventilatory support and 16 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Another 119 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 117 of them in the general wards. Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
