Kenya Records 80 New COVID-19 Cases, 4 Deaths; Positivity Rate At 1.9%

BY  JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,28TH OCT,2021-Eighty more people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 4,188 tested in the last 24 hours, translating to a 1.9 percent positivity rate.

This now brings the total confirmed positive cases to 253,018 while the cumulative tests conducted so far are 2,691,330 

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said from the new cases, 77 are Kenyans while three are foreigners. 

The cases were distributed across various counties as follows; Kericho 19, Nairobi 17, Bomet 8, Uasin Gishu 5, Embu 4, Nakuru 3, Busia 2, West Pokot 2, Kajiado 2, Kakamega 2, Kiambu 2, Siaya 2, Nandi 1, Narok 1, Nyandarua 1, Nyeri 1, Samburu 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Turkana 1, Bungoma 1, Kisii 1, Makueni 1, Meru 1 and Mombasa 1.

At the same time, four patients are reported to have succumbed to the disease, one having occurred in the last 24 hours while the other three are late deaths reported after conducting record audits in the months of August, September and October 2021. This now pushes the cumulative deaths to 5,270.

Meanwhile, 64 patients have recovered from the disease with 51 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 13 are from various health facilities countrywide.

“Total recoveries now stand at 246,569 of whom 199,172 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 47,397 are from various health facilities countrywide,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

A total of 467 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,278 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

“24 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 12 of whom are on ventilatory support and 12 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation,” the Ministry of Health added.

As of Wednesday, a total of 5,153, 667 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,608,290 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated stood at 1,545,377.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 40.6 percent while the Proportion of adults fully vaccinated stood at 5.7 percent.
