BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,28TH OCT,2021-Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has come out to protest a supposed plan by the government to instigate graft charges against her just days after she decamped to Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party.
Reports emerged on Thursday that EACC detectives are finalising on a probe into graft allegations against Waiguru and a number of Kirinyaga County officials who were among the delegation that accompanied her to the DP’s residence on Tuesday.
In reaction to the report published on a local daily, Waiguru termed the alleged impeding arrest as unfortunate, saying it is meant to intimidate and manipulate those contemplating to join the Ruto-led ‘hustler movement’.
“Surely, barely 48hrs after we decamped to UDA & now this? As a believer in the rule of law this is unfortunate. It’s intention is to dissuade those contemplating the same & an attempt at engineering succession politics. it wont work. Kenyans are not stupid. There is God in heaven,” said Waiguru on Thursday.
The Kirinyaga Governor is reported to be facing charges over an alleged irregular land survey tender by the County Government and payment of questionable allowances.
Investigations into the matter are said to be complete with the file set to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for action.
The alleged irregular multi-million tender reportedly revolves around a land surveying company for the subdivision of New South Ngariama Scheme in 2006.
Other officials likely to be charged alongside Waiguru are county Chief Finance Officer Mugo Ndathi, Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi, Leader of Majority James Murango and chairman of the Budget Committee at the county assembly David Mathenge.
