Kenya records three deaths as 151 test positive for Covid-19

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,18TH OCT,2021-The Ministry of Health has announced 151 new cases of Covid-19 from 7,224 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The cases bring the positivity rate to 2.1 per cent as cumulative confirmed cases hit 252,839.

The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 113 years.

Total recoveries rose to 246,390 after 35 patients recovered from the disease; 25 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 10 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Some three deaths have been recorded from late reports after conducting facility record audits in the months of July and October 2021.

Cumulative deaths currently stand at 5,263.

A total of 488 patients are currently admitted in various hospitals, while 1,308 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Another 27 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13 of whom are on ventilatory support and 14 on supplemental oxygen.

No patient is under observation.

An additional 157 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 149 of them in the general wards.

A total of eight others are in the High Dependency Units (HDU).

Nairobi recorded the most cases at 30, Bomet 18, Meru 17,Makueni 13, Nakuru 9, Kericho 8, Bungoma 7, Kisii and Kajiado 5 each, Kisumu, Mombasa and Narok 4 each, Kakamega, Nyeri, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu and Kiambu 3 each.

Marsabit, Nyandarua and Garissa recorded two cases each, while Elgeyo Marakwet, Laikipia, Vihiga, Machakos, Murang’a and Migori recorded a case each.
