BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,22ND OCT,2021-The Ministry of Health has announced 124 new cases of Covid-19 from 7,356 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The new cases bring the total caseload in the country to 252,499 and the positivity rate to 1.7 per cent.
From the cases 68 are male and 56 female, while the youngest is a two-year-old child and the oldest is 97 years.A total of 80 patients have recovered from the disease; 68 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 12 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Total recoveries now stand at 245,962.
Cumulative deaths rose to 5,249 after six patients succumbed to the disease. The six are late death reports from facility record audits in the months of August, September and October 2021.
A total of 522 patients are currently admitted in various hospitals countrywide, while 1,414 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
Some 30 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 13 of whom are on ventilatory support and 17 on supplemental oxygen.
No patient is under observation.
Another 167 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen in General wards and no patient is in the High Dependency Units (HDU).
In terms of County distribution; Nairobi recorded the highest number of cases at 28, Uasin Gishu 19, Kisii and Makueni 8 each, Bungoma 7, West Pokot, Kakamega and Kericho 6 cases each.
Siaya recorded 5, Kiambu, Nakuru and Narok 4 each, Kirinyaga and Murang’a 3 each, Tharaka Nithi and Isiolo 2 each, while Vihiga, Busia, Homa bay, Kajiado, Nyandarua, Kisumu, Laikipia, Meru and Mombasa recorded a case each.
As of Sunday, October 21, 2021, a total of 4, 826,129 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.
Of these, 3,457,839 are partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated are 1,368,290.
