Kenya records 298 new COVVID19 cases as positivity rate stands at 4.6%

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,2ND OCT 2021-Kenya on Saturday recorded 298 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 250,023, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 6,451 recording a positivity rate of 4.6 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 2,569,174.

The country’s fatalities have risen to 5,131 after another three patients succumbed to the disease.

Kagwe said that there are 953 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 2,055 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

56 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 36 of whom are on ventilatory support and 19 on supplemental oxygen. One patient is under observation.

Another 315 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with306 of them in general wards and 9 in High Dependency Units(HDU).

Meanwhile, 399 patients have recovered from the disease with 379from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 20 are from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at 242,227 of whom 195,874 are from the Home-BasedCare and Isolation program, while 46,353 are from various health facilities countrywide.

VACCINATION

The CS said a total of 3,860,780 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses were 2,934,734 while second doses were 926,0337.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 31.6 per cent. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.4 per cent.
