Kenya records 317 new Covid-19 cases, as 177 recover

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,23RD SEPT 2021-Kenya has confirmed another 317 cases of the Covid-19 disease, from 6,129 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases bring the positivity rate to 5.2% and the total confirmed positive cases to 247,675.

From the new cases the youngest is a six-day-old infant while the oldest is 99 years.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe in a statement said 177 patients have recovered from the disease; 130 of whom are from various health facilities countrywide, while 47 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Total recoveries stand at 238,884.

Another 27 deaths have been recorded from late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of June, July, August and September 2021, bringing cumulative fatalities to 5,045.

A total of 1,268 patients are currently admitted in various hospitals, while 2,733 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Another 96 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 63 of whom are on ventilatory support and 28 on supplemental oxygen.

Five other patients are under observation.

Some 377 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen; 361 of them in general wards and 16 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Nairobi recorded the most cases at 79, Kajiado 36, Uasin Gishu 24, Kiambu 19, Kisii 17, Isiolo 15, Nakuru 14, Bomet and Mombasa 9 cases each.

Kirinyaga 8, Murang’a, Kakamega and Nyandarua 6 each, Elgeyo Marakwet, Meru and Nandi 5 each, Kericho, Kilifi, Kitui, Bungoma, Busia, Tana River and Embu 4 each, Nyeri, Laikipia, Baringo and Machakos 3 cases each.

Garissa, Lamu, Makueni, Migori, Narok and Kisumu 2 each, while Homa Bay and Siaya recorded a case each.


As of September 22, 2021, a total of 3,507,836 vaccines had been administered across the country.

Total first doses are 2,631,821 while second doses are 876,015.
