Kenya records 32 deaths, 661 new virus cases

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,10TH SEPT,2021-Kenya on Friday recorded 661 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s caseload to242,945, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe confirmed.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 8,141, representing a positivity rate of 8.1 per cent.

The cumulative tests now stand at 2,444,357.

The country’s fatalities have risen to 4,896 after another 32 patients succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of July, August and September.

Kagwe said that there are a total of 1,723 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,725 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 174 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 118 of whom are on ventilatory support and 40 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 655 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with595 of them in general wards and 60 in High Dependency Units(HDU).

Meanwhile, 533 patients have recovered from the disease with 416 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 117 from various health facilities countrywide.

Total recoveries now stand at230,940 of whom 187,241 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 43,699 are from various health facilities countrywide.


As of September 9, a total of 3,031,728 vaccines have so far been administered across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 2,208,468 while the second doses are 823,260.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 37.3 per cent with the majority being males at 456,864 (55 per cent) while females are at 365,927 (45 per cent).

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.02 per cent
