34 patients succumb as Kenya records 501 new COVID19 cases

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,9TH SEPT,2021-Kenya on Thursday recorded 501 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 242,284, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 6,879, recording a positivity rate of 7.3 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 2,436,216.

The country’s fatalities have risen to 4,864 after another 34 patients succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the months of July, August and September.

Kagwe said that there are 1,752 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,864 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

Another 163 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 117 of whom are on ventilatory support and 40 on supplemental oxygen

Another 671 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with617 of them in general wards and 54 in High Dependency Units.

Meanwhile, 312 patients have recovered from the disease with 190 from various health facilities countrywide while 122 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme. Total recoveries now stand at 230,407 of whom 186,825 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 43,582 are from various health facilities countrywide.


As of September 8, a total of 2,980,929 vaccines have so far been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses are 2,160,564 while second doses are 820,365.
