War on crime: Police gun down two criminal suspects in Kisumu, household goods recovered

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,28TH AUG 2021-Police in Kisumu on Saturday morning gunned down two suspected criminals and recovered household goods believed to have been stolen.

The two thugs were part of a fifteen man gang, according to Kisumu East sub county Police commander James Musyimi, who confirmed the incident.

He said the other suspects escaped with gun wounds following the fierce shooting.

According to the incident report, police officers from Nyamasaria patrol base received communication from their command headquarters about a robbery at Ogango .

A distress call had been made to the command center by a resident of the area.

The officers immediately responded .

The report indicates that while on their way to the scene, the officers met a 15 member gang  that was armed with dangerous and offensive weapons.

“They had machetes, iron bars, crowbars and other house breaking tools,” the report reads in part.

The suspects were fleeing the scene, carrying the stolen items. They were heading towards a car wash area when the officers confronted them.

“They were challenged by the officers and in response one of them fired at the officers, ” the incident report further reads.

The police responded by shooting two of the thugs.

Police believe those who were shot dead are aged between 20-25 years. They were not immediately identified.

The others fled and are being sought after by the police.

Amongst the items recovered at the scene included a TV set, 6Kg cooking gas, a grill and gas burner, a microwave, one woofer and four sound speakers, DVD player, electric iron, assorted beddings and clothing.

A heavy gauge crowbar with a sharp edge was also recovered by the officers.

The OCPD said the bodies of the suspects were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu for identification and postmortem.

He said the household items recovered are kept by the police to await identification by the victims of past robbery incidents in the area.

The case is being Investigated by the DCIO Kisumu East sub county.
