Kenya records 1,225 new COVID19 cases as 1,318 recover

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,14TH AUG,2021-Kenya has recorded 1,225 new cases of Covid-19, from 8,877 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The new cases bring the total caseload in the country to 219,938 and the positivity rate is now 13.8 per cent.

From the cases 632 are females while 593 are males.

On recoveries, 1,318 patients have recovered from the disease 1,232 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 86 are from various hospitals.

Total recoveries now stand at 202,372.

Cumulative Covid-19 related deaths reached 4,319 after an additional 17 deaths were reported from facility record audits in April and August 2021.

A total of 1,933 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 9,809 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Another 131 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 55 of whom are on ventilatory support and 69 on supplemental oxygen.

Seven other patients are under observation.

An additional 685 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 643 of them in general wards and 42 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The cases are distributed in counties as follows; Nairobi 324, Kiambu 138, Nakuru 112, Nyeri 111, Machakos 66, Murang’a 42, Kilifi 34, Uasin Gishu 31, Kirinyaga 29, Trans Nzoia 28, Kitui 26, Mombasa 25, Kajiado 23, Marsabit 22, Embu 21, Busia 20, Migori 17, Kericho and Kisii 16 cases each, Garissa and Lamu 15 cases each, and Laikipia 13.

Kwale had 10 cases, Isiolo, Nyandarua and Wajir 7 cases each, Meru, Kakamega, Taita Taveta and Siaya 6 cases each, Nyamira 5, Bomet and Kisumu 4 each, Makueni and Baringo 3 each, Bungoma, Vihiga and Homa Bay 2 cases each.

Tharaka Nithi recorded one case.
