BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,7TH AUG 2021-Kenya recorded 1,205 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday from a sample size of 8,158 tested in the last 24 hours.
The country’s positivity rate is at 14.8%.
The total number of confirmed cases in Kenya now stands at 211,028 from a cumulative test of 2,184,276 conducted since March.
Of the new cases, 1,175 are Kenyans while 30 are foreigners with 622 being male while 583 females were confirmed to have contracted the virus.
The youngest is a six-month-old infant while the oldest is 100 years.
1,242 patients have recovered from the disease, 1,069 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 173 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total number of recoveries now stands at 197,029 of which 157,849 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 39,180 are from various health facilities.
29 patients have succumbed to the virus during the same period. The total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 now stands at 4,117.
A total of 1,650 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities across the country while another 7,771 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 109 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 46 are on ventilatory support, and 56 on supplemental oxygen with 7 patients on observation.
A further 568 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 533 of them being admitted in the general wards. 35 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
The Health Ministry has so far vaccinated a total of 1,793,520 persons against the Covid-19 disease countrywide, of these, total first doses are 1,097,830 while second doses are 695,690.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 214,059, Others 204,391, Health Workers 119,820, Teachers 101,577 while Security Officers are at 55,843.
