Kenya records 1561 new COVID19 cases as 31 succumb

BY JOAN WANJIIKU,NAIROBI,6TH AUG,2021-1,561 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 10,072 tested in the last 24 hours pushing total confirmed positive cases to 209,823.
The positivity  rate is now 15.5% while cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,176,118.
Out of the new cases 1,495 are Kenyans while 66 are foreigners.
803 males while 758 are females with the youngest being a one-month-old infant while the oldest is 98 years.
31 patients have succumbed to Covid, one of  them in the last 24 hours while 30 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in April, May June and July 2021.
This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 4,088.
New deaths by age; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (2), 40-49 years (1), 50-59 years (5), 60 years and  above (23).
Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (57), 10-19 years (31), 20- 29 (123), 30-39 years (324), 40-49 years (481), 50-59 years (810), 60 years and above (2,262).
A total of 1,576 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,834 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
108 patients are in the Intensive Care  Unit (ICU), 46 of whom are on ventilatory support and 55 on supplemental oxygen. 7 patients are under observation.
Another 554 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with  521 of them in general wards and 33 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
102 patients have recovered from the disease with 91 from various health facilities countrywide while 11 are from Home-Based Isolation and Care.
Total recoveries now stand at 195,787 out of which 156,780 are from Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 39,007 are from various health facilities.
Vaccination
As of August 5th, 2021, a total of 1,768,519 vaccines had so far been administered across the
country.
Of these, total first doses are 1,084,013 while second doses are 684,506. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 63.1% with the majority being males at 55% while females are at 45%.
Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.5%.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows:
Aged 58 years and above 210,894, Others 200,768, Health Workers 118,554, Teachers 99,544 while Security Officers are at 54,746.
