15 more patients succumb to COVID19 as Kenya records 1,068 new cases

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,29TH JULY 2021-Kenya on Thursday recorded 1,068 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 201,009, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 7,398 recording a positivity rate of 14.4 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 2,116,979.

The country’s fatalities have risen to 398 after another 15 patients succumbed to the disease on diverse dates.

Kagwe said that there are 1,434 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 3,918 patients are on the home-based care programme.

A total of 176 patients are in ICU, out of which 43 are on ventilatory support.

Also, 463 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, out of which 417 are in general wards and 46 in the HDU.

Kagwe has asked county governments to increase their oxygen supply  capacity to accommodate the increase in demand.

Meanwhile, 398 patients have recovered from the disease out of which 255 were from the Homebased care program while 143 were discharged from various health facilities.

Kenya’s recoveries now stand at 188,222.


As of Wednesday a total of 1,707,734 vaccines have so far been administered countrywide. Of these, 1,055,341 are first doses while 647,393 are second doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 61.3 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent.  Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.37 per cent.
