BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,15TH JULY,2021-Residents of Muguga Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County voted peacefully in the ongoing by-election to vote in their new ward representative.
Analysts say the Thursday’s by-elections in Muguga and Kiambaa Constituency could re-shape the politics as the country gears for 2022 General Elections.
The voting exercise kicked off at exactly 6:00 am with polling stations registering an exceptionally high voter turnout.
There were long queues at polling stations spread across Kabete Constituency.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has put in place measures to guarantee safety of staff and voters by ensuring residents are adhering to Covid-19 regulations.
On Wednesday, the electoral commission conducted a fumigation exercise of the Tallying Centre at Muguga wa Gatonye and polling stations in line with Covid-19 protocols.
The race has attracted four candidates namely; UDA’s Kamau Thumbi, Githinji Mung’ara Jubilee, Peter Njoroge (PPK) and Mumbi Moses Gicharu (Thirdway Alliance).
So far, UDA’s candidate Kamau Thumbi and Peter Njoroge from PPK have cast their votes at Muguga Primary School polling station.
Thumbi exuded confidence of clinching the seat after several months campaigning amid the suspension of political gatherings due to Covid-19.
PPK’s Peter Njoroge while addressing the media said he was satisfied with the voting exercise and called on residents to be calm .
No election malpractices have been reported in the area.
The seat fell vacant after area MCA Eliud Ngugi died on March 16 this year.
