Kenya records 488 new virus cases, 16 deaths

BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,11TH JUNE,2021-Kenya on Friday recorded 488 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 174,773 , Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 5,831 recording a positivity rate of 8.4 per cent.

The cumulative tests stand at 1,858,443.

From the cases 481 are Kenyans while seven are foreigners. 315 are males and 173 females.

The youngest is a three-month-old infant while the oldest is 94 years old.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 90, Busia 72, Siaya 71, Kisumu 35, Kericho 33, Uasin Gishu 27, Mombasa 23, Bungoma 21, Nakuru 14, Nandi 13, Homa Bay 11, Bomet 11, Kisii 9 and Kirinyaga 8.

Others are Kakamega 7, Vihiga 6, Kiambu 5, Murang’a 4, Kilifi 4,Garissa 3, Kajiado 3, West Pokot 3, Kitui 2, Meru 2, Migori 2, Narok1, Nyamira 1, Samburu 1, Tharaka Nithi 1, Trans Nzoia 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Embu 1, Kwale 1 and Machakos 1.

The country’s fatalities have risen to 3,378 after another 16 patients succumbed to the disease.

A total of 969 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,827 patients are under home based isolation and care programme.

Some 162 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 30 of whom are on ventilatory support and 113 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 19 patients are under observation.

Another 106 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with101 of them in General Wards and 5 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
