BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,10TH JUNE,2021-All eye are on Treasury Cabinet secretary Ukur Yatani as he presents the  2021/22 budget statement before parliament this afternoon. The CS  is expected  in parliament  starting a quarter past three .

The statement will outline among others the amount of money to be allocated to each ministry and state departments , will also largely elaborate how the government will restore the economy within the next financial year considering effects brought about by the corona pandemic.

The 3.6 trillion budget is also key, considering it is the final one for president Uhuru Kenyatta just before he leaves office in 2022,this means that the development projects he started will also depend largely on this budget if they have to be completed .The head of state is keen to cement his legacy.

It is also important to note that , Yatani’s second budget statement will likely follow this curated format.

To start with, the Cabinet Secretary will reflect on the year that was along the current macro-economic conditions which have largely been punctuated by by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the first time in years, the budget statement comes ahead of the 2021 Economic Survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) which would have traditionally painted a picture of the year that was.

Following a reflection on the state of the economy, Yatani will proceed to highlight areas of priority spending in the new financial year which dawns on July 1.
