BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,9TH JUNE,2021-Kenya on Wednesday recorded 589 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 173,661, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.
The CS in a statement confirmed that this was from a sample size of 4,995 recording a positivity rate of 11.8 per cent.
The cumulative tests stand at 1,845,884.
In terms of County distribution, Kisumu has 100 cases, Nairobi 91,Bungoma 60, Homa Bay 54, Siaya 49, Uasin Gishu 37, Busia 32,Nandi 24, Mombasa 17, Nakuru 17, Kakamega 12, Nyeri 11,Migori 11, Vihiga 9, Kiambu 8, Bomet 7.
Meru 7 cases, Kericho 6, Kilifi6, Kisii 5, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Murang’a 4, Kajiado 3, West Pokot2, Nyandarua 2, Samburu 1, Taita Taveta 1, Trans Nzoia 1,Turkana 1, Embu 1, Laikipia 1, Machakos 1, Narok 1, Nyamira 1and Garissa 1.
The country’s fatalities have risen to 3,345 after another 19 patients succumbed to the disease.
Kagwe said a total of 994 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 5,049 patients are under the HomeBased Isolation and Care program.
Also, 114 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 65 on supplemental oxygen. 20 patients are under observation.
Another 93 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with86 of them in general wards and 7 in High Dependency Units(HDU).
Meanwhile, 312 patients have recovered from the disease, 184 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program while 128 are from various health facilities countrywide.
Kenya’s recoveries now stand at 118,933.
The CS said so far, 1,030,445 people have been vaccinated countrywide. Out of this, 50,490 people have received their second doses of the vaccine.
