BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,8TH JUNE,2021-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has urged members of the public to collaborate with security agencies in reporting criminal activities that occur in their neighborhoods.
“We ask members of the public to collaborate with us. All these criminals doing heinous activities live in our midst. It is very helpful for the public to be conscious of the rising levels of crime,” he said
At the same time, Matiang’i acknowledged the role of security agencies in protecting Kenyans against any form of criminal activities saying the government will not shy away from its responsibilities.
“In two years alone we have collected close to about 14,000 guns, over 400,000 bullets from wrong hands. Tomorrow we will be burning another huge pile of those guns. Let’s work together on issues of crime in this crime.” He stated
Matiang’i urged other Independent institutions in the country to emulate the ODPP in coming up with reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery.
The Excellence Charter which will be implemented from 2020 to 2023, aims at ensuring the ODPP delivers on its mandate to achieve high performance and impactful prosecution of cases.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji said the Excellence Charter is the ODPP’s commitment to provide quality services to Kenyans.
“The Charter sets out and focuses on the organization we want to be- a prosecution service that is responsive the needs of Mwananchi. Our Objectives is to inject accountability, transparency, legitimacy, public confidence and quality control in all our operations with overall aim of transforming the ODPP into a 21st century prosecution service,” he said

The President of the Court of Appeal, Daniel Musinga lauded the ODPP for ensuring accountability and quality service delivery saying engagement and inter-agency collaboration will strengthen Justice Systems in the country.
“The success of the various initiatives pursued by the justice sector actors will largely depend on the efficacy of inter-agency collaboration. We must individually and collectively strengthen our systems.”
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Nelson Havi who was present during the launch expressed LSK’s commitment in supporting the ODPP implement its mandate.
“I envy the ODPP because of all the independent offices under the constitution his has been the most transformative in performing the agenda given to it by the constitution,” he said.
Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai and Vice Chairperson IPOA, Dr Jonathan Lodumpui pledged their support in ensuring Police reforms are achieved and rogue Police officers involved in violation of human rights are brought to book.
