BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,28TH MARCH,2021-Kenya on Sunday reported 884 new cases of Coronavirus bringing the total number of infections to 130,214.
A statement by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases are from a sample size of 5,377 tests conducted in 24 hours.
This translates to a positivity rate of 16.4 per cent.
Kagwe said from the new cases, 843 are Kenyans while 41 are foreigners with 464 being females and 420 being males.
The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 110.
Cumulative tests conducted are 1,468,835 since the first case was reported in March 2020.
Unfortunately, 13 deaths have been reported out of which two occurred in the same period while 11 are late death reports from facility record audits.
This now pushes the total number of fatalities to 2,117.
“Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved one,’ Kagwe said.
He said currently, a total of 1,221 patients are admitted in various health facilities across the country while 4,060 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
“121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit of who, 32 are on ventilatory support, 82 on supplemental oxygen and 7 patients on observation,” the CS said.
Kagwe said another 88 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 76 of them being in the general wards while 12 in the High Dependency Unit-HDU.
Of the new cases, Nairobi county leads with 509 cases, followed by Kaimbu with 99, Uasin Gishu 59, Machakos 48, Nakuru 46, Kajiado 38 Meru 13, Kitui 12 and Nandi 11.
Kilifi county has 9 cases, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Marasabit 5, Bungoma 4, Murang’a 3, Vihiga 3, Kakamega 2, Laikipia 2, Nyandarua 2, Taita Taveta 2, Wajir 2 and West Pokot 2 cases.
Turkana, Baringo, Lamu, Migori, Mombasa, Garissa, Nyeri and Homa Bay counties each has one case.
