BY  JOAN  WANJIKU,NAIROBI,26TH MARCH,2021-President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the Cabinet and all senior staff in the Executive to lead in getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

Confirming the order, State House Chief Of Staff Nzioka Waita took to Twitter to show himself receiving the jab.

“As the Government scales up the rollout of the national Covid-19Vaccine program, the President has directed his entire Cabinet and Executive Office to lead by example and get the jab! Received mine this morning under the watchful guidance of the Ministry of Health vaccination team,” Nzioka tweeted.

This is an about-turn from governments’ communication which stated that politicians were not on the list of receiving the first batch of vaccine.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 1.25 million Kenyans will receive a dose of the first batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine and politicians are not among them.

This was after controversial claims on social media that politicians plan on jumping the queue to get access to the vaccines.

Meanwhile, there has been slow uptake on the vaccine due to skepticism among some Kenyans.

A flurry of suspensions of the coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford erupted after several European governments suspended the use of the vaccine as a precautionary measure following reports of blood clots.

Although the numbers are low, vaccine safety experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) are reviewing the jab one more time.

Symptoms registered after vaccination are headache and pain in the arm.

The vaccine was rolled out in the country on March 5, with data showing that around 70,000 people have so far been reached against the 1.25 million targets by June 30.

As the the sharp increase in Covid numbers indicate possibility of a third wave, Kenyans have been advised not to hesitate in presenting themselves for the vaccine
